You may have heard a lot lately about cleansing your body of
toxins. One of the most popular and talked-about therapies
is Chelation Therapy. This involves removing heavy metals
and mineral deposits from the body. The term chelation comes
from the Greek word “chele”, which means “claw”, because of
the way the chelate attaches to the heavy metals and removes
them from the body. The chelated metals are usually arsenic,
iron, lead, mercury and aluminum. Chelating agents bond with
the toxic metals in the body, forming a water-soluble
substance that can be eliminated from the body. Chelation
therapy can be administered intravenously or orally.
Intravenous chelation therapy is usually administered as an
outpatient treatment. EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra-Acetic
Acid) is injected into the veins over a period of 10 – 12
weeks. Oral chelation therapy involves taking the chelating
agent (EDTA) by mouth, usually in liquid or tablet form.
Chelation therapy was first used during WWI by the British
to help soldiers exposed to arsenic poisoning. An organic
dithio compound was used to bond with the arsenic in the
bloodstream and exit the body through the kidneys and liver.
WWII exposed a number of US military personnel to lead
poisoning from paint used on Navy vessels, A synthetic amino
acid (EDTA) was used to remove the lead from their systems.
Chelation therapy for removal of heavy metals is an accepted
medical practice, particularly for treating lead poisoning.
It usually involves the use of EDTA. Some applications of
chelation therapy are more controversial, including its use
in treating heart disease, cancer, gangrene, multiple
schlerosis, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease,
thyroid problems, psoriasis and autism, as well as
self-medication through herbs and supplements. The American
Heart Association views chelation therapy as “experimental”
for the treatment of heart disease.
Proponents of alternative treatments claim that chelation
therapy using EDTA reduces calcium in the bloodstream, which
may reopen blocked arteries. Others claim that chelation
therapy removes environmental toxins from the body and can
help prevent cancer. Supporters of experimental treatments
cite anecdotal records of individuals who have had
miraculous recoveries from arterial blockages. They also
note improved brain function as circulation improves
throughout the body. Nerve endings, organs and sexual
activity are revitalized. Skin regains its elasticity and
energy levels are improved. Patients have reported relief
from pain caused by arthritis, schleroderma and lupus.
By increasing circulation with the removal of overabundant
minerals and metals from the body, you can prevail over
chronic and debilitating conditions. We at Cardio Restore
